LV 312 T1–T4 Explained: Choosing Wire Harness Tape by Temperature
Understand the LV 312 T1–T4 temperature classes and pick the right automotive wire harness tape for each zone of the vehicle.
LV 312 is the global benchmark that classifies automotive wire-harness tape by temperature resistance. Every OEM specifies a class for each harness section — get it wrong and the tape melts or the harness is rejected.
The four classes
- T1 (Class A), −40 °C to +85 °C — passenger cabin / interior looms.
- T2 (Class B), −40 °C to +105 °C — engine-bay periphery, deep dashboard.
- T3 (Class C), −40 °C to +125 °C — engine-bay core; abrasion-resistant PET is the main choice.
- T4 (Class D), −40 °C to +150 °C — against the engine / turbo; glass-fibre and special cloths.
Match the backing to the class
Cabin looms (T1) often use soft PET fleece for anti-rattle; the engine bay (T3–T4) needs woven PET at abrasion Class C/D; the hottest zones move to glass-cloth tape rated to 260 °C.
The buyer's shortcut
When you request a quote, state the class and zone: "LV 312 T3 PET cloth tape for under-hood harness, abrasion Class C." That single line tells the manufacturer exactly what to ship. Browse all automotive wire harness tapes.
