Identification and masking that survives a parts washer or washdown

The need: Labels and tape come off, or the printing blurs, after components go through a washer, a hot detergent cycle or a high-pressure hygiene washdown.

Three different things fail in a wash, and they need different answers. The bond can release, the backing can absorb water and swell, or the print can blur while the tape itself stays put. Say which one you are seeing.

What actually breaks a tape here is rarely the water. It is hot water plus detergent (alkaline chemistry softening the adhesive), or high-pressure spray hitting an exposed edge and peeling it back. So edge lift and wash temperature matter more than IP-style waterproofing.

This is the industrial grade, for components and equipment. Apparel and laundry are a different product — see our washable fabric tape.

How to choose

Getting it right in 3 steps

1

Give the wash recipe

Temperature, detergent type and pressure. Alkaline detergent at 80 °C is the usual culprit.

2

Count the cycles

Surviving one wash and surviving 200 are different specifications.

3

Say if it must stay readable

If the print has to survive, we specify the print system as well as the tape.

4

Check the edge

Most washdown failures start at a lifted edge, so apply to a clean, dry surface and roll the edge down.

FAQ

Identification and masking that survives a parts washer or washdown — questions & answers

What tape survives an industrial parts washer?

An industrial wash-resistant tape, specified for your wash temperature, detergent and pressure. Hot alkaline detergent — not the water — is usually what releases an ordinary tape.

Will the printed identification stay readable after washing?

With the right grade, yes. Print durability is specified separately from bond durability, so tell ONEI if the marking has to survive and we match both.

Is this the same as washable fabric tape for clothing?

No. This is the industrial grade for parts, machinery and hygiene washdown. Apparel and laundry use our washable fabric tape — tell us the application and we point you to the right one.

Do you have grades for food and pharma washdown areas?

Yes, waterproof washdown-resistant grades are available for food, beverage and pharmaceutical hygiene areas, with documentation on request.
