What Tape to Use for EV High-Voltage Harnesses
Orange is the global high-voltage warning colour. Here's how to choose EV high-voltage harness tape that's heat-resistant and flame-retardant.
Electric-vehicle high-voltage harnesses use orange — the internationally recognised high-voltage warning colour. But colour alone isn't enough: the wrap around a battery pack or motor also has to handle heat and meet flame-retardant expectations.
Three requirements
- Orange for high-voltage identification and technician safety.
- Temperature class T3–T4 around battery and motor zones.
- Flame retardancy — often UL 94 V-0 and zero-halogen.
Building the spec
Combine orange EV high-voltage tape with flame-retardant grades and, for the hottest spots, glass-cloth tape. As EV volumes grow, orange HV tape has shifted from niche to a core, high-growth line.
